Youth Invasive Plant Removal Project in the Eagle River Area

Who We’re Looking For: 

Youth between 6th – 11th grade interested in the environment and want to learn about invasive plant species, specifically bird vetch, and how to help control it.  After completing training, youth will assist to help remove vetch from public areas in the Eagle River area. 

Why Participate?

  • Make a Difference- help keep Bird Vetch from spreading in our community.
  • Learn Valuable Skills – Receive hands-on education about invasive species, appropriate controls, and basics of environmental stewardship. 
  • Create Long-Term Impact – Build awareness and social responsibility while helping reduce the spread of invasive plants in our community.

Stipend Opportunity!

  • Participants can earn a stipend for up to 10 hours of work between June 7th and 24th

Registration is required.

  • The first 15 registered participants will be eligible to receive the stipend, at least $10/hour.   (More can attend the training but may not be eligible for a stipend.)
  • Upon completion of hours, you will also receive a letter from GERGC for a scholarship folder! 

Tentative Training Dates

  1. May 17th from 5-7pm at the Eagle River Nature Center Yurt.  Refreshments provided.
  2. June 7th from 1-2pm at the Eagle River Lion’s Park for hands-on training

Requirements to Participate   

Participants must:

  • Register in advance to attend
  • Complete and sign a Permission & Release of Liability Form (and return on May 17)
  • Submit a signed report of hours worked to receive payment
